Egyptian cotton is regarded as the cream of the global crop, with the longest staple (or fiber) of any type of cotton. It is famous like the pyramids, the pharaohs and the Nile. Considered the finest cotton in the world, it is soft, silky, strong, less likely to pill or lint and expensive.

Thread count represents the number of threads woven into each square inch of fabric.  Usually, the higher the thread count the smoother the surface of the fabric.  Because they utilize finer yarns using more material, higher thread count sheets tend to be more expensive.   However, higher thread counts extend the life of the fabric, so you may end up saving money in the long run by replacing your sheets less often.

Cotton sateen is named for the satin type weave of this 100% cotton fabric.  A special weaving process is used to place more lengthwise yarns on the surface of the fabric for a shiny look and very soft feel.   Cotton sateens are generally very durable.

-Do not mix your cotton bed sheets with polyester products when loading them into the washing machine in that polyester fabric has the tendency to pill and shed the same pills on to the cotton fabric.

-Use half the commercial detergent recommended; this will reduce damage to fibers and clean your linens just as well.

-Wash in cool water that's less than 104 degrees F.

-Dry on low heat

-Set wash cycle on gentle

-Use the extra rinse cycle if available

-Avoid using bleach as it breaks down fabric fibers

-Dry sheets in the dryer only until they're dry

-Avoid over drying

-Remove sheets from the dryer promptly and fold immediately

-If sheets have cooled in the dryer and wrinkles have set, then tumble another 5-10 minutes with a washcloth that has been slightly dampened.

Egyptian cotton takes time "to settle". In fact, the more you wash it, the better it performs. Similar to a fine linen tea towel that is stiff, hard and brittle when new, yet softens and drapes better with age and lasts for many, many years, so too does Egyptian cotton improve with use, lasting much longer than conventional cotton.
