What shade do I need? Here is a short guide to help you decide:
FAIR (formerly BARELY LIGHT) - Our lightest shade available, perfect for porcelain skin. Most women that burn very easily and never tan use this shade.
LIGHT - Next in line for the light shades. Most women with this tone will burn then tan.
MEDIUM - 85% of caucasion women wear this shade. Usually will seldom burn and tan easily.
TAN - Women with some ethnic backgrounds with lighter skin or tan all year long can wear this shade.
Our minerals are versatile and fixable. If a color is too light, then all you need to do is add a small dash of a darker color. Say the light is too light for your skin, all you need to do is add Tan to make it darker. Just keep adding a small pinch at a time until you get your desired shade.
And the same rule applies if your color is too dark. If Tan is too dark, all you need to do is add a lighter shade of foundation, Be Flawless Finishing Powder, or Illusion Finishing Powder to lighten it!
If you don't want to mix colors, but really, all you do is put both in one of our jars and shake, there are numerous uses for a foundation color you do not like. You can use it for eyeshadow, eyeshadow base, mix with your veil for a hint of color, add to lipstick for a new shade, etc.
How To Apply Our Minerals
Our minerals are super easy and quick to apply! You'll be naturally gorgeous in less than a minute!! Maybe 2! Just remember DIP, your applicator into minerals, SWISH to work minerals into brush, then apply. That's it! And since we do not use bismuth oxychloride (that is the shiny itchy stuff found in some brands, Yuck!) you do not have to "buff" the minerals into your skin. Just apply on skin and go!
Our jars are safety sealed, so just poke holes in the sifter seal or remove to release mineral powders.
** If you use a moisturizer or lotion under your foundation, be sure to let it get fully absorbed before applying minerals. Moisturizers actually help "hold" your minerals.
CONCEALER/COLOR CORRECTOR: Hides imperfections. Use before foundation application on clean, dry, moisturized skin. Using a concealer brush or q-tip, apply concealer generously and firmly to the areas you wish to conceal. Feather edges. A creme concealer can easily be made by adding a drop of moisturizer/emu oil to the powder, then blend the products together into a smooth creamy consistency, and apply.
FOUNDATION:
Step 1: DIP your applicator into minerals. (we recommend a kabuki brush or a large face brush).
Step 2: SWISH the brush containing minerals on a non-porous surface like the jar lid, our swirly bowl, foil, etc. until all the minerals are absorbed into the brush. It doesn't take much! If you need more coverage, just apply in layers.
Step 3: Lightly click the brush handle against the edge of the lid to remove excess minerals. You may want to start where you need the most coverage like down your nose, then cheeks, chin, then forehead, and around your face. The more you use our minerals, you will find what method works best for you. As you use your Smoky Mountain Minerals, you will create your own style.
**Please note! Since we do not use bismuth oxychloride in our minerals (that is the shiny, itchy yucky stuff) there is no need for buffing like other brands. Just apply and go!
BLUSH: Dip brush or applicator into your blush powder. Click the end of the brush handle to drop powder into
brush head. Firmly apply powder on clean, dry skin. Apply to the apples of your cheeks. Start with a small
amount of blush powder and blend well. The pigment is concentrated and colors can be more intense than conventional
products. Blushes make gorgeous eye colors, too!
BRONZER: Follow blush instructions to load brush and apply, applying bronzer powder to the forehead, cheeks,
bridge of nose, and chin for a 'sun-kissed' look. Add to foundation for a gorgeous foundation color! Apply as you would foundations or wherever a touch of the sun is wanted.
ILLUSION MINERAL FINISHING POWDER: Follow foundation instructions to load brush and apply. This is an all-over translucent mineral
face powder that can be worn alone or as a finishing powder over your makeup to blur lines, wrinkles and other
imperfections. Apply.
BE FLAWLESS FINISHING POWDER: Follow foundation instructions to load brush and apply. This is an all-over translucent mineral
face powder that can be worn alone or as a finishing powder over your makeup to blur lines, wrinkles and other
imperfections. (Same use as Illusion, just different formulation.) Apply.
GLOW: Follow foundation instructions to load brush and apply. This is an all-over face shimmering mineral face
powder to apply to areas of your face that will normally 'glow' when you are flushed. It can be worn alone, over
foundation or over our finishing powder.
EYE COLOR: Our eye colors can be applied dry or wet. Apply dry for gorgeous SMM color. For a more vibrant color, dampen your applicator, dip into eye color, then apply. Our eye colors can also be used as eye liner. Gorgeous!
EYE LINER: Apply wet or dry. Use our eyeliner brush or a pointy q-tip applicator. Apply wet for more vivid color!
LIP COLOR: It is recommended to have lined lips with a complimentary or skin tone shade of lip liner. Using a
lip brush, apply a thin coating of lip color to clean, dry, lips. Can also be worn over your favorite lipstick for added
depth, shine and texture.
*Practice until you find the application technique that works best for you. There is no right or wrong way to apply our minerals.
*You may want to practice applying with a cottonball until you get the hang of how much to use and application.
*There is just one rule that you absolutely must follow: HAVE FUN!
If you are purchasing our smaller 5g/3ml jars of makeup, dip your brush lightly into your minerals. Swirl your brush on a non-porous surface like a piece of foil, or something like our Swirly Bowl (available here or in our webstore). Tap, then, apply as usual.
ENJOY! You cannot make a mistake with SMM minerals. Anyway you apply that works for you is the right way!

What color foundation is right for me?
Smoky Mountain Minerals foundations are very forgiving, allowing many different skintones to look great in the same colors! For example, I am medium toned with freckles and my s-n-l is fair with blonde hair and we both like the medium foundation. You can also mix your foundations to get the exact shade you want! It is really personal preference.
How do I apply my minerals? Just remember swirl, tap, and apply. Just turn your jar upside down, with the lid on of course, then turn back up. Open and swirl your brush into the minerals left on the lid. If this isn't enough, repeat and apply in layers. You will use this technique with all our minerals. ***When I was first getting used to applying my minerals, I used a cotton ball instead of a brush for applying my minerals. It helps give you a "feel" of how much to apply and a little better control until I got used to using our luxurious kabuki brush!
In what order do I apply my minerals?
It's all personal preference. I apply foundation, blush, Perfection Veil, then Halo Glow. You can wear any of our minerals alone, too! In a hurry? Just apply foundation and blush. Or just Perfection Veil. Or just Halo Glow. The possibilities are endless!
You are limited only by your imagination when using Smoky Mountain Minerals!
Enjoy!!!!
