CONDITION GRADING GUIDELINES FOR CHEERLEADING UNIFORMS

We have developed the following guidelines to grade condition of cheerleading uniforms we sell. We make every attempt to make sure that any damages are specified in item description.  We try very hard to maintain a consistent standard in grading uniform conditions, but please remember that this is still a subjective process  There may be grade variations between our evaluation and those made by the buyer or another evaluator.

NWT (new with Tags) / NIP (new in package) = not washed or worn.  Package or tag may show wear from handling, but item is in factory/"mint" condition.  Garment is serviceable for any use.

NWOT (new without Tags) / NWT-RS (rep sample) = not washed or worn other than tried on.  Garment may have been used as rep sample, but remains serviceable for any use.  Specify if any noticeable "flaws" from storage or handling, or if rep has written size on garment itself (if so, specify location of markings).

LIKE NEW = no signs of wear but washed 1x or 2x. Size tag is still very stiff & clearly readable.  May be a rep sample or barely used team inventory item. Garment is serviceable for any use.  Unaltered.

EXCELLENT USED CONDITION = Fabric & trim in excellent condition, has been worn and washed several times but no obvious aging or damages.  Size tag is still pretty stiff & clearly readable.  Serviceable for any use. Unaltered or VERY skillfully altered * (see below).

VERY GOOD USED CONDITION = showing some signs of wear, but without major damages and with a lot of life left.  Size tag soft but still mostly readable.  Piece may have small snags, SLIGHT sheen from past ironings, or small sections of loose thread that can easily be mended by anyone with basic sewing skills.   It may have some small or light stains that are not obvious beyond arms length viewing distance.  Garment could still be used for game wear, but probably would not want to use it for serious competition.   Unaltered or skillfully altered*.

GOOD USED CONDITION / COSTUME = Obviously used, but with no major damage.   Size tag very soft or fraying, and difficult to read.  Noticeable but minor damage or stain; or has been altered.  Could be used for game wear, but recommended for costume / play use only.

SEWING BOX = Major damage to some part of the garment, multiple minor damage or stains, or noticeable alterations that are not skillfully done. Garment requires extensive repair to be serviceable for use for any purpose.  Trim, zipper, buttons, and / or parts of fabric are salvageable to use for repairing or constructing matching pieces.

* ALTERATIONS: Any alterations must be specified by stating “This piece has been [skillfully or noticeably] altered to measure [______].” (State actual garment measurements).

SKILLFULLY ALTERED = inspector can not tell without looking very closely at the item that it has been altered.  Measurements do not coordinate with tagged size, or stitching variations are discernable on close inspection.   EXAMPLE: waistband removed and pleats opened on skirt, pleats re-sewn to smaller or larger size and waist band reattached.

NOTICEABLY ALTERED = alterations are visible to the casual inspector, and may actually change the appearance of the item when worn.   EXAMPLE:  Skirt is taken in by sewing through folded waistband, either by pinching up sections of waist band around the skirt and sewing darts through finished waistband (making waist bulkier and making hips of skirt overly loose), or by folding a section of the skirt onto itself and sewing it down, leaving a large thick fold in the skirt and making it hang abnormally.

* EMBLEMS AND LETTERING: Describe how letters or emblems are attached to the garment, and your opinion of how difficult they would be to remove. Color shade differences or pinhole outlines from removal of emblems or lettering must be specified, but as long as this can be covered by buyer with their name or emblem, it will not be considered to reduce overall grade rating.  Actual damage of fabric from careless or aggressive removal of emblems or lettering generally should be considered to reduce quality grade, but this should be determined on a piece by piece basis, and described with detail and photos when possible.
