SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate)
SLS is a very strong commercial degreaser, it is used to clean factory floors, degrease car engines, it is a known irritant, and is used in experiments to irritate the skin to test skin calming products.
The effect that SLS has on the skin is that it strips away the natural oils produced by the skin. I have done a lot of research into SLS on the internet and I myself am concerned about the use of SLS in cosmetic products... This is just some of the information I have found, but suggest that anyone who reads this has a look for themselves...
The information I have found, links SLS not only to retarding healing and the development of children’s eyes, but causing cataracts in adults. Some reports say that it is a carsonogenic which links it to cancer... SLS has a low molecular weight so is easily absorbed by the skin, therefore it can build up in the heart, liver and brain. SLS is a caustic cleanser that actually can corrode the hair follicle and impairs the ability for the hair to grow. SLS causes the dysfuntion of the biological systems of the skin.
SLES (Sodium Laurth Sulphate)
SLES is a bi-product of SLS and is also a known irritant.Products containing these substances can affect those prone to eczema and other irritants. These substances provide a foaming quality to the product, allowing for better distribution of the product while washing hair or skin and while brushing teeth. When rinsed off, the product will have cleaned the area but will have taken moisture from the top layers of skin. In people with sensitive skin (prone to dermatitis, acne, eczema, psoriasis and chemical sensitivity, the drying property of these type of detergents can cause flare-ups of skin conditions or may worsen existing conditions.
MPG (Mono Propolylene Glycol)
MPG is a apparently relatively non toxic but is a mild irritant!!!
PG (Propylene Glycol)
This is a "surfactant" or wetting agent and a solvent and is the active component in anti-freeze. There is absolutely no difference between what you have in your engine radiator and what is in your toiletries. In industry it is used to break down protein and cellular structures, but that's exactly what skin is! This is classed a toxic substance with recorded instances of brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities.
PARABENS (methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl) (Preservatives)
These are all highly toxic preservatives used in most skin care products. They are estrogen-mimics that disrupt hormones. They are known to cause allergic reactions and severe skin rashes.
Traces of Parabens have also been found in Breast Cancer Tumours!!!
